This is why I came

I'm Maggie, and I am so grateful you are reading this today! Sex, Sexuality, love, connection, bliss! These are the words I went on search for after a car accident left me paralyzed and using a wheelchair. I remember after I broke my back, while still in the hospital, thinking about sexuality and quickly pushing it away for fear of the answer. Since I had already lost the ability to walk, the fear of never orgasming again and feeling that depth of pleasure was not another loss I wanted in the forefront of my mind. It was however, in my mind and a topic that would not go away no matter how hard I tried to forget it.

I remember asking my ex to have sex with me so I could get some objective feedback regarding the status of my vulva. Did it feel the same to him? Did it feel the same to me? Would I get turned on and would my body respond to the excitement in my mind and heart as this man touched me so sweetly? These were the first of the many questions I asked as I found my sexuality again and led me to my why.

Let's Do More

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT GOING TO A REGULAR GYM WHEN YOU HAVE A DISABILITY?

Preston and I noticed that when we thought about going to the gym, there were a lot of concerns that arose.

Considerations such as:

Are they accessible?

Do they have adapted equipment?

Are their facilities conducive to success as a disabled person seeking exercise?

Will people just stare at me?

Will I fit in or feel completely out of place?

Do I have the energy to deal with all that arises as a disabled person engaging in an able-bodied world?

Are any of the trainers qualified and/or know how to work with someone who is disabled?

We, as a company honor and acknowledge that for 61 million Americans, disability is a reality and therefore, can impact what they do and how. As many as 18% of Americans are disabled in some way and with all those people, you would think there would be more options that supported physical health. Enter Adapt-to-Fitness!

Our Philosophy:

Just like the Torus, which is a fundamental pattern of energy-flow in the universe, we at Adapt-to-Fitness believe in the following components within our community:

  • It is always centered by a point of stillness - It is in this stillness that answers are discovered, whether it be through listening to the mind, heart or body.
  • Has an axis of rotation at the center - Whether you imagine this concept where you are the center of the axis or Adapt-to-Fitness is, we want that point to be as healthy as it can be since all flows through that single point.
  • Both receives and transmits information/energy - Just as you will come and give your workouts your all, we intend to give to you as much as we can. Creating this shared space allows for expansion for all of us.
  • Is made of the same medium from which it arises - Whatever your ability level is, it is often through the struggle that we adapt and grow.
  • Distributes energy throughout itself and it's surroundings - Just as you will put your energy into improving your wellbeing, we strive to do the same thing for you.
  • Exists both as an independent entity and as an integrated part of a larger interconneted whole - Adapt-to-Fitness is both an independent entity as well as an opportunity to bring together a larger community as a whole.
